Huntsville School District will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3rd, but we will be running inclement weather bus routes for the safety of our students and families.
Our administrators have been monitoring road conditions across the district. While main roads are clear, some secondary roads remain hazardous. To ensure everyone’s safety, buses will follow the modified inclement weather routes.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing our students and staff tomorrow!

We are aware of information currently circulating online stating that the Huntsville School District Board of Education will be voting on the 2026–2027 school calendar at the February board meeting. This information is not accurate.
At this time, no calendar options for the 2026–2027 school year have been presented, discussed, or scheduled for a vote by the Board. While the district will begin conversations about the upcoming school year calendar in the coming months, those discussions have not yet occurred.
We believe it is important to clarify this to make sure our families, staff, and community members have accurate information. When calendar discussions do begin, the district will communicate clearly and transparently through official channels, and community input opportunities will be shared.
Thank you for helping us keep information accurate and for your continued support of Huntsville School District.

Due to ongoing road conditions, Huntsville School District will be closed again tomorrow, Friday, January 29th.
While main roads around town and near our school buildings have improved, many back roads and rural bus routes remain slick, icy, and frozen. Lingering ice combined with extreme cold temperatures continues to make travel unsafe in these areas.
We’re hopeful that the sunshine this weekend will help thaw these roads, and we can’t wait to welcome our students and staff back next week, hopefully!
We hope our students and staff have enjoyed this unexpected extra week to rest, recharge, and come back ready for a great week of learning ahead!
A huge shoutout to our maintenance department and all those who came in throughout the week to clear parking lots, sidewalks, and prepare our facilities to welcome everyone back (hopefully very soon!). Your hard work does not go unnoticed.
Stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy the rest of your snow days. ❄️

❄️🛷 The snow and cold just won’t budge… 🛷❄️
So, we’re keeping the streak going! 𝐍𝐨 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰, 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡.
It looks like Superintendent Chalk has fully embraced snow-day mode, and we invite our students and families to do the same! Enjoy one more day of snow fun at home while we continue working hard to get everyone safely back to school as soon as possible.
After closely monitoring conditions, district administrators continued evaluating road conditions today. While we’re seeing improvements around town and around our school buildings, many rural roads and bus routes are still not safely passable. Most of our bus routes, especially our rural routes, remain impacted, and overnight freezing temperatures will continue to delay a safe return.
Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and support. Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy one more snow day! ❄️☃️

It’s official... The Huntsville School District will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28, making it another snow day!
Our district administrators have been out driving roads while our maintenance team has been hard at work clearing parking lots, sidewalks, and getting our buildings ready for when we can safely return.
Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the bonus day! We’ll continue to monitor conditions and will share updates as soon as we’re able. We miss you all! ☃️❄️

After closely monitoring the weather forecast, we have decided to dismiss school early tomorrow, January 23rd. With winter weather expected to move into the area later in the afternoon, our top priority is the safety of our students and staff. This early dismissal allows everyone, especially those who travel from outside the district, adequate time to get home safely before conditions worsen.
Dismissal times are as follows:
• Watson Primary & Intermediate: 12:30 PM
• Huntsville Middle School: 12:45 PM
• Huntsville High School: 1:00 PM
• St. Paul: 12:30 PM
Please note: If the weather arrives earlier than expected, dismissal times may be adjusted.
We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our school community as we make decisions with safety at the forefront.

❄️ Winter Weather Information: How We Make School Closure Decisions ❄️
As we head into the winter season and face the weather forecast for this weekend, we want to share how the Huntsville School District makes decisions about school delays and closures. Our top priority is always keeping students in school on a normal schedule whenever it is safely possible. We know consistent routines matter for learning, and a regular schedule helps families plan their day. Every decision is balanced against that priority, while also making sure our students and staff can travel safely.
When winter weather threatens, several factors are considered, including current and anticipated road conditions across the district (including side and rural roads), forecasted weather timing and temperatures, transportation and bus safety, campus and parking lot conditions, and coordination with neighboring school districts.
Our team begins monitoring weather conditions early and stays in close contact with local officials, road crews, and neighboring districts. While we always aim to communicate decisions as early as possible, we must also rely on accurate information, which sometimes requires waiting for updated forecasts or road checks before making the call.
If a delay or closure is needed, our goal is to notify families by 6:00 a.m. on the day of the event, if not earlier, through our phone message system. Information will also be posted on the district website and mobile app and shared with Channel 5 and 40/29 News. When conditions allow us to make a decision the evening before, we will aim to communicate by 7:00 p.m.
𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐥𝐲. At this time, there are no anticipated closures, and this message is simply to help families prepare as we enter the winter season.
Stay warm, stay safe, and thank you for your continued support. ❄️

We are especially grateful for our School Resource Officers and the Huntsville Police Department, who serve our campuses every day by building relationships, supporting students and staff, and helping create safe, welcoming learning environments. Their presence goes far beyond safety; they are mentors, role models, and trusted partners in our schools.
We appreciate the strong partnership we share and the commitment shown to serving our schools and supporting our students. Thank you for all you do, not only today but every day. #HSDistheplacetobe

Our board members give countless hours of their time to serve our students, staff, families, and community. Their leadership, commitment, and willingness to make thoughtful decisions help guide our district forward and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
We are grateful for their service, their vision, and their continued support of public education. Please join us in thanking our Board of Education for all they do for our schools and our community. #HSDistheplacetobe

As we ring in the new year, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible students, families, staff, and community members who make our community such a special place to learn and grow. The start of a new semester brings fresh opportunities, renewed energy, and continued commitment to the success and safety of every student.
We are excited to welcome our students back on Tuesday, January 6, and we are ready to continue the great work happening across our district. Thank you for your ongoing support, partnership, and pride in our schools!
Here’s to a year of growth, learning, and shared school pride across our district #HSDistheplacetobe

We want to reassure our families and community that there was no threat to student safety at any time. Should there ever be a situation that poses a true safety concern, you can rest assured that we will act quickly, follow our established emergency procedures, and communicate with you promptly and transparently. #HSDistheplacetobe

As part of our continued commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for our students, we are updating the traffic flow around Huntsville Middle School beginning when we return from Thanksgiving Break.
To help improve campus safety, School Drive (the road running through the HMS campus) will be closed to thru traffic during school hours.
All daytime traffic will now use Circle Drive on the right side of Middle School Hill. Vehicles will go up the hill, circle the HMS parking lot, and then return down the same side.
We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with the City of Huntsville, who helped prepare the area and support this safety improvement.
Please note:
- The road will be closed only during school hours
- After school, traffic will reopen and flow as normal
Thank you to our families, neighbors, and community for your understanding and support as we continue prioritizing student safety.
