"Hi! I'm Thea Austin. I'm happy to begin my journey as a Huntsville Eagle. I've been teaching Middle School Art since 2011. I like to spend time with my family and friends, when I'm not creating on my own time. I'm from Northeast Arkansas, but have called NWA my home for the last 10 years. I love this area's beautiful scenery and natural beauty! I'm excited to be part of the Huntsville community."

In partnership with Bright Futures, Huntsville Dollar General is having a water bottle drive! 💦
Each year, water bottles are a huge need for students. Having a supply helps Bright Futures and Huntsville School District meet this need!
Huntsville Dollar General will be collecting the water bottles in-store, and will be using the change left in the change jar to add more water bottles to the box! Water bottles will be delivered to Bright Futures Huntsville to be distributed through the schools. 💦

This week, some of our HMS team attended Solution Tree’s High Impact Teams Institute in Houston, where we learned strategies to strengthen collaboration, improve team effectiveness, and increase student success!
Every session reinforced what we believe at HMS—that when adults work together with purpose, students benefit! It was a great time of learning!

📚➗ Last week, Mrs. Wylie, our Algebra I teacher, and Ms. Rutledge, our Instructional Facilitator, attended Algebra-focused professional learning through the Arkansas Department of Education. The training provided new strategies, resources, and best practices to strengthen math instruction and support student success.

🇺🇸 Flag Day Map Unveiling 🇺🇸
Today, Huntsville Middle School students were recognized for their outstanding community service and creativity during the Flag Day celebration on Polk Square. We are proud to congratulate Johana Reeves, Kynadee Clark, Arthur Schmitt, and Victoria Prado on the unveiling of Huntsville’s new city map, a project they helped create to benefit our community!
Their hard work, artistic talent, and dedication resulted in a lasting contribution that will help residents and visitors learn more about our city.

HMS is thrilled to announce that we will be launching a PBIS School Store during the 2026–2027 school year! 🎉
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports — a schoolwide system that encourages positive behavior, responsibility, respect, and creating a safe learning environment for all students. How it works: Students will earn Eagle Brags for positive behavior, and use the Eagles Brags to shop for fun items, snacks, and special incentives during School Store days! 🦅✨ No actual money is required for students, just Eagle Brags! This makes the School Store an equitable opportunity for all students!
HMS is currently looking for community sponsors to help stock our school store and support our students! Sponsors will receive:

Tuesday was a great day of adventure and learning for our 8th graders at War Eagle Cavern! Students explored the caverns, discovered unique rock formations, and made memories while enjoying a fun educational experience outside the classroom.
A big thank you to our teachers, staff, and chaperones for making the trip possible and helping our students have such an amazing day!

Today a group of students spent the day at Camp Harvest learning leadership skills such as: Communication, teamwork, problem solving, and patience. So much was learned, while having a ton of fun! A BIG thank you to our partners at the Madison County Health Coalition and Camp Harvest for providing this opportunity!
Our Advanced Art students have been putting their creativity and leadership skills to work by spending time with our kindergarten classes! 🎨❤️ Through a fun project focused on shapes and colors, these students are giving back in such a meaningful way while helping inspire our youngest learners. We love seeing creativity, collaboration, and kindness come together in our classrooms!
Our 7th graders stepped back in time today during their field trip to the Fort Smith National Historic Site and the U.S. Marshals Museum!
Students got a firsthand look at history as they toured the historic site, explored the U.S. Marshals Museum, acted out a “trial” in the Hanging Judge’s actual courtroom, and experienced just how small the jail cells really were. What an unforgettable day of hands-on learning and history brought to life!
A big thank you to our teachers and chaperones for making experiences like this possible and helping create such a memorable day for our students!
Our 6th graders had a great time exploring the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium last Friday! 🐠🦈
